NTUC presented 60 individuals and companies May Awards at this year's May Day Dinner on 29 April 2009. Among which were 3 outstanding members of the ESU family. They are Singapore American School (Plaque of Commendation), Nor Aisah Zainal (Comrade of Labour) and Chiam Tow Jong (Comrade of Labour).

2009 marked a key moment for the Education Services Union as it celebrated its
membership milestone. Over 400 participants including management partners,
members, branch officials, Executive Committee members and their family and
friends joined in the celebrations at Scarlet City in AMK Hub for the Membership
Night....
The
Education Services Union began its new financial year with an outreach session
to members in the preschool sector. Titled “Shaping The Future Of The Preschool
Sector”, the session on 11 April 2009 allowed ESU to engage both Ordinary Branch
and General Branch members on how the union could work with them to influence
changes in the sector...
At the Education Services Union Corporate Planning Seminar from 28 to 30 March 2009, participated by Executive Council and some Branch Officials, ESU showed to our members "We Care" by endorsing membership waivers for members who are retrenched, as well as working with management partners to support fund-raising efforts in building up the ESU Hardship Grant.
A a core program of the NTUC U Care Fund, U-Stretch aims to provide relief to low income union members to reduce hardship during the downturn.
The U Stretch vouchers are 50% discount vouchers worth $80 redeemable at the specified participating social enterprises.
It comes in a booklet with denominations of $2.50. With the $2.50 voucher, you can buy a $5 item and pay for it with this $2.50 U-Stretch voucher. You only get to spend $5 to get your 50% discount.
The eligibility criteria for union members are:
1) gross household income of $1,800 and below; OR
2) Per capita income of $500 and below
Those who exceed the above criteria may apply and the selection committee will review the applications.
Application for the vouchers is now open. The closing date is on 16 May 2009.The application form can be downloaded here and must be completed and submitted together with the household salary slips to ESU.
